AIRPORT
RECEIVES UPLIFT
article
from March 2000
Construction
at the airport is finally winding down. As you are probably aware, for the past
two months, the airport has been literally torn up. All pavement surfaces
received some form of rehabilitation, except for the main runway, which was
overlayed a few years ago. Even the t-hangar areas were repaired and sealed. The
$1.3 million project started by removing the underground fuel tanks. A total of
7 tanks were removed, opening up additional aircraft parking areas. The fuel
island will be relocated at a later date.
The project was 95 percent funded
through a grant from the Federal Aviation Administration and the State Division
of
Aeronautics. This project is the first is a series of a number of projects
planned at the airport. This winter the airport will begin working on a new
20-year master plan. Another project funded by the FAA, the new master plan will
look at the needs of the field with respect to the increased traffic anticipated
with both the raceway and amphitheater projects. Additionally, the Olivehurst
Public Utility District will begin work on a $2.5 million project to construct a
new water treatment plant in Industrial Park No. 1 that will improve the water
quality of the Olivehurst area, including the airport. New water lines will also
be installed along Arboga Road, just south of the airport, to bring water
service to approximately 150 acres of industrial property, bringing additional
opportunities for increased capital investment.
Look for additional improvements
on the field as we embark on a long road ahead: building for the future.
Funding is the only slow down . . . once we figure out how to get it done, watch
us move full speed ahead. (photo shows apron
